John Sullivan

John Sullivan has been creating beautiful landscapes for over 40 years. He began his career landscaping and training in the art of stone masonry. As his interest and talent grew, he achieved a degree and license in Landscape Architecture. John trained in engineering, landscape architect, and design/build firms in New England for several years prior to starting JSLA, LLC in 1997.

John enjoys sharing his knowledge of landscape design. He has been teaching as an adjunct professor at New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord since 1997 and at the University of NH’s Thompson School. John has been a speaker at the Worcester, MA Centrum Flower Show on sustainable landscape design, and served there as an exhibit judge from 2000 to 2004. He has also been active in his local community serving on the town planning board and chairing the Natural Resources Committee for the towns master plan.

Through this strong experience, you can be assured of an innovative design solution that will not only suit your needs but will go far beyond your expectations. Let us transform your dreams into a reality.

“John spent lots of time and energy helping me come up with the right concept for our small garden and the correct utilization of the space. This included finding the appropriate plants and moving established plants and shrubs around to give us optimal viewing from our deck and porch. Throughout the project, John and Martha made us feel like our small garden was the most important thing they could be doing.  Their focus on making us happy while keeping us real and grounded is paying off. We can’t wait until spring!”  – Ingrid & Peter B.

Initial Consultation

Discussion & Discovery

In our initial consultation we will walk your property with you to analyze the opportunities and constraints of the site, discuss your ideas and needs, and discover possibilities that may lead to the design solution. This field investigation and your goals will drive solutions during the design process.

Conceptual Design

Dream & Direction

In this phase we begin to develop a vision of the outdoor spaces based on your dreams and needs of the space. In discussing these initial concepts with you we determine together the direction in which the project will be progressing.

Design Development

Design & Details

Indoor/outdoor relationships, usage and scale are key components to providing a sense of space. This is where the conceptual design develops into unique features that may require more investigation through specific details, cross sections, or perspectives. In this phase the design is refined and materials are determined. The level of detail needed is dictated by the complexity of the project.

Our objective is to understand and enhance
your goals and ideas to transform your vision into a reality.
